Women Now for Development (WND) is the largest women’s rights coalition operating in Syria and the diaspora with a unique model of feminist leadership in conflict. We are a locally embedded feminist organization led by Syrian women, utilizing participatory and transformative methods by empowering women on the ground in their leadership roles. Our efforts contribute to building women-led and feminist movements and enriching feminist knowledge production nationally, regionally, and globally to reach a more just and democratic society. WND was founded in 2012 and currently oversees a diverse team of over 200 staff members across four countries, delivering critical programmes that empower over 15,000 Syrian women so far and advocate for a more just and democratic society.
Position Overview
WND is seeking a passionate and experienced feminist leader to join our team. We offer a unique opportunity to share leadership with a seasoned colleague as co-director. The Co-Directors will jointly steer the organization’s strategic development, as well as manage its programmatic, financial, and administrative operations. Operating as a cohesive feminist alliance, they will collaborate in decision-making and duties, delineating distinct areas of emphasis while upholding a collective leadership style. In close collaboration with relevant stakeholders, the Co-Directors will oversee and guide diverse facets of the organization, encompassing programmatic, financial, and administrative tasks. This central role demands unwavering dedication to feminist values, forward-looking strategic thinking, and proficiency in negotiating intricate funding environments.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Support establishment of clear strategic vision for the departments in collaboration with the team and its co-director and in line with the organization’s strategy.
- Share responsibility for supervising and supporting senior staff members;
- Collaboratively provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to help staff members grow and excel in their roles.
- Manage the organization’s branch in Germany: lead the team based in Germany; ensure compliance with German regulation, National audit.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in management roles within the NGO or non-profit sector and/or in feminist organizing
- Demonstrated progressive leadership responsibilities and a strong commitment to advancing women’s rights and empowerment.
- Experience in coalition management and working in conflict areas are preferable.
- A university degree in a relevant field is preferred. However, equivalent professional experience and demonstrated expertise will also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of the Syrian context
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Proficiency in German and Arabic is an asset.
- Possession of a valid working permit in Germany
- Ability to occasionally travel for meetings, conferences, and program activities as required.
- Good understanding of German association regulations and experience working within the non-profit sector in Germany.
- Familiarity with legal requirements, reporting standards, and best practices relevant to non-profit organizations operating in the German context.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with a feminist and dynamic team, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a commitment to promoting the participation and leadership of all team members.
- Understanding of care as feminist value and ability to support team in stressful conditions.
Duration:
This is a 35-h position with an initial contract term of one year (four days per week) subject to renewal.
Location:
The position will be based in Germany-Berlin with occasional travel as required.
